현재 가장 널리 사용되는 UV잉크는 대부분 솔벤트 계열 모노머를 사용하고 있어, 온전한 친환경적이라 하기엔 뭔가 아쉽다. 그래서 개발된 것이 수용성 UV 잉크이며, 수용성 하이브리드 UV 잉크라 한다. Water-based UV curable Hybrid ink (수용성 하이브리드 UV 잉크) -. After UV-curing, the Hybrid INK forms water and scratch resistance on INK layer -. Zero VOC(Volatile Organic Compounds), extremely low smell. 기술적으로 보면, 잉크젯으로 출력된 잉크를 LED UV로 초벌 경화하고, 열을 이용해 수용성 용제를 건조시킨 후, UV 경화를 함으로써 최종 경화 시킨다. 솔벤잉크나 일반 UV잉크에 비해 경화 조건이 까다롭지만, 휘발성 유기화합물이 전혀 발생하지 않으며, 친환경용제를 사용했기 때문에, 식료품 관련 포장 인쇄에 적합하며 유해화학물질 규제에 완벽하게 적합한 잉크이다.
